Solar Light Placement

Solar lights are the up and coming trend in outdoor home decorating and landscaping. More and more homeowners are starting to use the energy efficient means to light the outside of their homes. There are several varieties of solar lighting to choose from so that there is always a choice that will fit your style and needs.

Some people use solar lights to light a path or sidewalk. Small lantern style lights usually have a spire on the bottom so that they can be pushed into the ground. The sun provides the energy needed to charge the batteries and the lights automatically turn on when darkness falls so there are no wires or switches to worry about. That is especially important on a walkway because you do not want people tripping.

Other individuals who are garden enthusiasts use solar garden lights to light their gardens. These light fixtures are usually shaped like an animal, insect, or rock so that they blend well into the gardening landscape. I have seen solar lights that are butterflies and grasshoppers and they light up at night giving a very pretty and heavenly look to the garden. Other solar garden lights are shaped like rocks so people cannot distinguish them from other border rocks. I have also seen solar garden lights that are frogs or small rodents. They look like decorative statues during the day and light up at night so that you can enjoy their decoration even then.

Still other homeowners use a solar light for their security or flood lights. A solar security light is one that turn on according to a motion sensor. When someone or something moves close to any entrance or area where you have security lights mounted, the light will turn on. These lights need to be brighter than path or garden lights so they will generally be made of forty or more LEDs. Mounting can be tricking if you have to work around gutters, but you can usually work it out. A good time to service your solar security lights is when you do your annual gutter cleaning. Just make sure that the collector panels are clear and that they still get direct sunlight for the majority of the day, and that’s about it.
